GILLETTE, Wyo. – A $1 million water main replacement project will close off a section of E. 7th Street starting next week and continuing until the end of May, according to the City of Gillette.
Beginning April 20, E. 7th Street from Osborne Avenue to S. Kendrick Avenue will close while construction crews work to replace an existing iron water main with a new PVC water main and resurface the roadway with new asphalt, the city says.
As of April 13, the project is scheduled for completion on May 29, per the city. While construction is underway, detours will be set up on E. 7th Street north to E. 6th Street using S. Kendrick Avenue and S. Brooks Avenue; all roads within the construction zone will be closed to through traffic.
The iron water main to be replaced has been there since the 1960s and has endured multiple resurfacing projects such as a three-inch mill and overlay in 1999 and new asphalt in 1980, the city says.
