UPDATE: Similar incidents were reported to have occurred in the Crook County School District and Sweetwater County School District this morning. Both were again confirmed to be swatting incidents.

CASPER, Wyo. — Three schools in Wyoming have been cleared Monday morning after reports of possible violence that prompted major law enforcement responses.

The school districts of Laramie County, Campbell County and Natrona County announced similar incidents.

“It appears similar unsubstantiated calls are being made to schools across the region,” the Cheyenne Police Department posted after South High School lifted the lockdown.

Authorities initially responded to the high school for reports of an active shooter, Cheyenne PD said. “The report appears to be false — originating from a different area code.”

Laramie County School District 1 Superintendent Dr. Margaret Crespo wrote to parents:

“As we close out the recent law enforcement activity in the South Triad, I want to take a moment to let you know I have been closely following the local, regional, state, and national trends we are seeing related to school safety, including concerning behaviors in our local community, swatting incidents around Colorado and now Wyoming. During these events false calls are made to emergency services, sometimes from overseas, regarding active school threats and critical incidents.”

The Campbell County School District announced that the high school had been placed under lockdown due to “a report of violence” that was deemed false.

The lockdown at Natrona County High School lifted at 8:55 a.m.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
