GILLETTE, Wyo. – Weather officials are continuing to monitor the path of a potentially severe spring storm that could bring significant snowfall to the region and state early next week.
Though mild weather is forecast for the weekend, confidence is increasing for a spring storm that could affect all of Wyoming in various capacities starting Monday, April 3, through Tuesday, April 4, according to Day Weather Meteorologist Don Watzel.
Meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, are also in agreement that a spring storm could move into the region early next week bringing “epic” levels of snowfall with it.
But while meteorologists agree that a storm is likely on its way, precisely what areas could see significant weather impacts remains up in the air.
According to NWS, significant weather impacts are possible for northeast Wyoming, northeast Nebraska, or North Dakota at this point, though the agency is still advising residents across the plains to prepare for travel impacts and to consider alternative plans.
Watzel, in an afternoon storm update through the Wyoming Department of Transportation, showed forecast models suggesting heavier snow impacts along Interstate 90, central Wyoming, and south along the I-80 stretch between Rock Springs and Evanston.
“But, as we get closer to the event, especially looking at things (March 31) and into the weekend, it’s pretty fair to say that most of Wyoming is going to get something out of this storm system,” Watzel said. “We must, of course, include the caveat that things could certainly change as far as track goes.”
