C17 Crime Clips for Thursday, March 30

GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

Crash, March 29, Lakeway Road, GPD

A 71-year-old woman was cited for failing to have proof of insurance after she was allegedly involved in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 59 and E. Lakeway Road around 10:40 a.m., Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The woman was operating a 2008 Hyundai and was proceeding through the intersection when she was struck by a 25-year-old woman in a 2019 Ford. The traffic lights, according to surveillance footage captured by a nearby school bus, appeared to be blinking and may have been malfunctioning, Wasson said. No additional citations were issued.

Fraud, March 29, E. 5th Street, GPD

Officers received a report from a 45-year-old woman who said she got a loan statement in the mail for $4,039 from a furniture purchase in New York around 12:42 p.m., Wasson said. The woman said neither she nor her husband had made the purchase. The investigation is ongoing.

Crash, March 29, Camel Drive, GPD

A 17-year-old boy was cited for failing to maintain a proper lookout and was taken to the hospital after reportedly crashing his silver 2007 Jeep into a concrete barrier at Campbell County High School around 3:17 p.m., Wasson said. The barrier was around a light pole and the boy sustained a minor head injury.

Threats, March 29, T-7 Road, CCSO

Deputies will be looking to contact someone who allegedly sent a text message to a 21-year-old man threatening physical harm around 4:12 p.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The 21-year-old man did not know who the message came from and was advised to block the number.

Drugs, March 29, N. Gurley Avenue, GPD

A 29-year-old woman was cited for using methamphetamine after she was contacted for a welfare check around 8:55 p.m. on North Gurley Avenue, Wasson said. While speaking with officers, she reportedly showed signs of recent drug use and admitted to using meth.

Eluding, March 30, Elon Avenue, GPD

Officers located a green Chrysler belonging to a 34-year-old man on Elon Avenue who they suspect sped away from them during an attempted traffic stop around 1:47 a.m., Wasson said. The vehicle was warm to the touch and had passenger-side damage when they found it. They were not able to make contact with the man but he is on probation and his probation officer has been notified of the incident. As of March 30, officers had not determined what the vehicle struck.
