GILLETTE, Wyo. — Campbell County Public Library Board approved tonight a draft of a revised collection policy that they will vote on in about two months.

Campbell County Deputy Attorney Kyle Ferris said he anticipates he will be able to prepare the necessary notice on March 31. The public will be able to submit comments for the 45 calendar days that follow.

In addition to some changes that were made today, this is the policy that the board will be voting on in about two months.

Changes to this draft that were made at the March 27 meeting included the following:

  • Removing on page 12, the two instances of “or inappropriate for minors as determined by the Library Board”
  • Adding family life education under medical sciences

Proposed revisions for the collection development policy include some from a pro bono Florida-based legal organization,  Liberty Counsel, that the Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled a hate group.

Board Chair Sage Bear said the organization, said it or one of its affiliates will help defend the county if the policy is challenged in court.
