GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Animal neglect, March 20, Highway 14-16, GPD
Animal control officers removed 8 puppies from a room at the National 9 Inn yesterday and transported them to the animal shelter around 10:06 a.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The puppies had been under the care of a 45-year-old woman, and Wasson said the animals were seized due to suspicion they were being neglected. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Theft, March 20, Garner Lake Road, GPD
Officers responded to an address on Garner Lake Road after an 82-year-old man called to report discovering a catalytic converter had been stolen from his Winnebago motor home around 1:23 p.m., Wasson said. The theft is believed to have occurred between October 2022 and March 20, 2023. The part was valued at $1,000, and the investigation is ongoing.
Crash, March 20, S. 4-J Road, GPD
No one was injured following a two-vehicle collision near Westover Road and S. 4-J Road around 2:37 p.m., Wasson said. A 79-year-old woman was operating a 2019 Buick when she was struck from behind by a 35-year-old woman in a 2007 Hyundai. The 35-year-old was ticketed for following too closely.
Animal nuisance, March 20, Cameo Court, GPD
Two dogs were captured after they reportedly entered a 43-year-old woman’s chicken coop and killed a chicken around 7 p.m. last night, Wasson said. Officers responded after the woman called to report seeing the dogs in her yard. As of March 21, the woman’s chicken was valued at $200, and the dogs were transported to the animal shelter.
EMS call, March 20, Rohan Avenue, GPD
Officers responded to assist emergency medical personnel after a 74-year-old woman called to report she was having difficulty breathing at an address on Rohan Road around 8:47 p.m., Wasson said. When they arrived, they noted the smell of natural gas emanating from the residence and found the kitchen stove was on. The woman could not recall the last time the stove had been in use. She was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
Domestic violence, March 21, Gillette, GPD
Police were dispatched to Campbell County Memorial Hospital after a 33-year-old woman reported being struck in the face three times by an intoxicated 35-year-old man who also slammed her head on a dresser around 2:40 a.m., Wasson said. She told officers that she had left the man in an apartment. Officers responded to the apartment and, after learning he was wanted in Colorado, entered the residence. They found the man asleep inside the apartment and took him into custody without incident. He was charged with domestic battery, per Wasson.
Intoxication, March 21, Desert Hills Circle, GPD
A 20-year-old man was transported to the hospital for intoxication after he was picked up from a party early this morning by two 19-year-olds, Wasson said. The friends reported that he had vomited and was not coherent. The 20-year-old was left in the care of medical staff but was issued a citation for consuming alcohol under 21.
