A man arrested for causing significant damage to his ex-girlfriend's property has also been charged with injuring a police officer, false imprisonment, and interfering with an emergency call, police say.

GILLETTE, Wyo. – Local police arrested a 30-year-old man on Nevada Street yesterday who has been charged with felony property destruction and causing bodily injury to an officer, according to Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson.

Officers responded to the Nevada Street residence around 2 p.m. after a 36-year-old woman called them to report her ex-boyfriend, identified as 30-year-old Shawn Connell, was there destroying property, Wasson said.

When they arrived, officers called out to the woman who they could hear yelling for help inside the residence. When she didn’t respond, officers forced entry into the residence and came in contact with Connell, per Wasson.

Officers placed Connell under arrest, but he resisted while being transported to a patrol vehicle for transport and kicked one of the officers in the head, Wasson said, adding that the suspect reportedly caused significant damage to property inside the residence.

Connell was charged with felonies for property destruction and causing bodily injury to a police officer. He was also charged with false imprisonment and interfering with an emergency call, according to Wasson.
