Colder than average air settles in; warm temps to return early next week

GILLETTE, Wyo. — A few days of above average warmth are now in the rearview mirror as colder air has settled in over northeastern Wyoming.

Winds will die down today, but will continue from the north at 10 to 14 mph with gusts reaching 20 mph. Today’s high will get to around 31 degrees under cloudy skies, and a 20% chance for snow sneaks in after 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Mostly cloudy conditions will continue tonight as the low falls to around 18. Wind chills will get to around 5 degrees as winds pick up from the northwest to 14 to 16 mph and gusts reach 23 mph.

The sun will come out again Friday as the high returns to around 32 degrees. Wind chills will dip a bit further to 4 degrees as winds pick up more to 16 to 26 mph with gusts reaching 37 mph. Skies will clear for Friday night, and the low will fall to around 11 degrees. Winds will pick up to 20 to 25 mph before falling to 9 to 14 mph after midnight, according to the forecast.

Saturday will largely repeat Friday with a sunny high of 32. It will be quite a bit less windy with a sustained speed of 7 mph. Mostly clear conditions will be present Saturday night as the low falls to around 17. Winds will pick up from 6 to 11 mph to 13 to 18 mph after midnight.

Warmth returns Sunday with a high of 46, followed by a high of 48 on Monday.
