GILLETTE, Wyo. — It’s going to be another warm one today ahead of a cold front that will bring cooler temps for the rest of the week and a slight chance for snow tonight and Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, has forecast a 51-degree day with winds from the southwest at 26 to 32 mph and gusts reaching 46 mph. Slight rain chances, at about 20%, creep into the forecast around 4 to 5 p.m. with any precipitation after 5 p.m. leaning more toward snow.

Although chances are low, the National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook to warn of potential freezing rain in northeast Wyoming as this latest system rolls in. Snow accumulation isn’t expected, the outlook says.

Snow chances increase to 50% overnight, mainly between 7 p.m. and midnight, according to the forecast. The low will fall to around 20 and wind chills will dip to about 7 as winds come from the northwest at 25 to 30 mph and gusts reach 41 mph. Wind speeds should slow some overnight to 17 to 22 mph.
