LARAMIE, Wyo. — For the second time this season, the Wyoming Cowgirls have swept the Mountain West Player of the Week honors. Allyson Fertig was named the conference player of the week while Malene Pedersen earned the freshman of the week distinction. The duo swept the awards Jan. 30 as well.
This marks the third time this season and second consecutive week that Fertig has received the honor. Fertig averaged 25 points, 7.5 rebounds and a block per game in Wyoming’s wins over Nevada and Colorado State. Fertig opened the week with 23 points, nine boards and two assists on 11-of-14 shooting against the Wolf Pack. She followed that up with a career-high 27 points against CSU. Fertig added a block, an assist and a pair of steals in the win while shooting 9-for-16 from the floor and going 9-of-10 at the free-throw line.
Pedersen, meanwhile, is receiving the honor for the fifth time this season. Pedersen averaged 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists per game for the Cowgirls while shooting 11-for-20 from the floor. . Pedersen opened the week with 19 points and a career-high nine rebounds against Nevada. She followed that up with 15 points on just seven shots while adding an assist and five rebounds against Colorado State.
Fertig, Pedersen and the rest of the Cowgirls are off this week as they prepare for next week’s Mountain West conference tournament in Las Vegas.
