GILLETTE, Wyo. – The Campbell County School District has announced a two-hour delay schedule for all schools and bus routes today, Feb. 23.
The advisory comes as very cold wind chills move into the area on the tail end of a winter storm that prompted multiple government agencies and private businesses to close up shop on Feb. 22 as well as multiple road closures.
But while the widespread blowing snow and road closures due to the storm have come to the end, at least in the immediate area, northeastern Wyoming is currently under a wind chill advisory., according to the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Current temperatures, per NWS, are hovering around 20 below zero and are not forecast to climb any higher than 16 below zero without windchill for the rest of today.
According to NWS, wind chills this morning could dip as low as 35 below zero, a potentially dangerous level that could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
