Winter storm warning prompts Campbell closures

GILLETTE, Wyo. —With even more snow in store for Gillette this week, according to the National Weather Service’s Rapid City office, community agencies are announcing closure decisions.

The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, early Tuesday issued a Winter Storm Warning for Campbell County in effect from 5 p.m. today through 11 a.m. Friday. Widespread heavy snow and gusty winds “will lead to dangerous or impossible travel conditions across northeastern Wyoming” through Thursday, the warning states.

  • Campbell County Senior Center told County 17 the morning of Feb. 21 and said the center will be closed Wednesday
  • Campbell County Public Library and Wright Branch Library are closed Feb. 22
  • “Due to inclement weather, Gillette College will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023. Students are encouraged to check with their faculty or Canvas for any updates regarding coursework.”
  • St. Matthew’s Catholic Church Father Bryce Lungren will repose the Blessed Sacrament at 5 p.m. Feb. 21 and the chapel will remain closed until the weather clears, Eucharistic adoration coordinator Wendy Hays announced at about 4:15 p.m. “Stay home and stay safe!”
  • Family Health, Medical Arts Laboratory, and Gillette Internal Medicine will all be closed today as well, according to a message sent to County 17 at 5:50 a.m. Feb. 22
  • Swartz Chiropractic is closed today due to weather conditions, according to a message sent to County 17 at 7 a.m. Feb. 22.
  • Nannemann Brothers Auto is closed today, according to a message County 17 received at 10:09 a.m. Feb. 22

Meetings and events cancellations

Rockpile Museum Board is still scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. tonight, Director Robert Henning confirmed for County 17 at 4:55 p.m.

Campbell County Fair Board and Gillette’s City Council canceled their Feb. 21 meetings.

Ash Wednesday

  • Gillette First Baptist announced at about 10 a.m. that its Ash Wednesday service is canceled
  • First United Methodist Church of Gillette announced its office is closed Feb. 22 and the church plans to open the office Feb. 23. “Tonight’s Ash Wednesday service has been cancelled,” the church said in a Facebook post at about 10:45 a.m. “I will post something later today as a brief devotional. Please stay home and stay safe. Rev Cory.”
  • “Due to expected snow and fridged temperatures tomorrow our Ash Wednesday Service has been canceled,” First Presbyterian Church of Gillette said in a Facebook post. “Stay home and stay warm.”
  • Trinity Lutheran Church said its Ash Wednesday service and meal will be postponed until Feb. 23rd due to weather. There will be a meal at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 23 and a service at 6:30 p.m. “Stay home and stay safe and warm today!” the Facebook post said.
