C17 Crime Clips for Friday, Feb. 17

GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

Hit and run, Feb. 16, S. Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers received a report on Feb. 15 from a staffmember at a local fueling station who said a 2020 International Penske truck had struck a fuel pump, Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. They located a Penske truck at the Flying J on Feb. 16 around 8:34 a.m. with damage that matched surveillance footage from the fueling station. The driver, a 51-year-old man, admitted to misjudging his turn and colliding with a fuel pump before leaving. Over $1,000 in damages were done to the fuel pump and truck. The man was cited for leaving the scene of a crash, Wasson said.

Crash, Feb. 16, I-90, CCSO
A sheriff’s office patrol vehicle was reportedly struck by a passing 35-year-old man in a Ford Transit on I-90 yesterday around 1:30 p.m. while a deputy was conducting traffic control for a towtruck, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The patrol vehicle was struck by the Ford’s mirror but wasn’t damaged. The 35-year-old man admitted to being distracted and didn’t see the patrol vehicle until the last moment.

Theft, Feb. 16, Shoshone Avenue, GPD

A 16-year-old boy called the police to report his phone charger, phone, and cologne were reportedly stolen from an unlocked locker at the Campbell County Recreation Center around 4:26 p.m., Wasson said. The items were valued at $185, and the investigation is ongoing.

DWUI, Feb. 16, Highway 59, CCSO

Deputies located and stopped a 35-year-old woman in a silver Kia after a resident called to report she had been following him throughout Gillette around 10:20 p.m., Reynolds said. The woman was stopped for failing to maintain a single lane of travel and displayed signs of being under the influence of drugs. She was arrested for impaired driving and a warrant was sought for a blood draw at the Campbell County Detention Center.

DWUI, Feb. 17, Allen Avenue, GPD

Officers stopped a 2011 Chevrolet for making an improper turn and failing to use a turn signal at Sutherland Cover and Allen Avenue around 2:32 a.m. this morning, Wasson said. The driver, a 47-year-old woman, was ultimate arrested for impaired driving after displaying signs of intoxication and failing field sobriety tests.
