GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation’s 511 travel website registered about 2.2 billion site visits in 2022.

“This is by far the most hits in a calendar year since the department started tracking them,” said Vince Garcia, program manager for the Global Information Systems/Intelligent Transportation System program at WYDOT.

The website, www.wyoroad.info, shows forecasted and real-time weather-related road impacts and data from WYDOT weather sensors, plow operators and Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers in one spot.

The Closures and Advisories page and the I-80 web cameras were the top visited portions of the site in 2022.

Garcia said the department seeks to improve the tools for the public so it’s encouraging to see that drivers are turning to the website for information.

Because it’s been a more active winter, the Wyoming Travel Authorization Program, or W-TAP, which can help drivers time their travel for safer times, has seen a record number of registered users as of early February, according to the release.

W-TAP users must reapply annually, and new applications are received almost daily. About 90% of the users at this time are Wyoming residents.

Other users include commuters, out-of-state students at the University of Wyoming, and doctors and nurses from other states who travel to work in small Wyoming hospitals.
