Cowgirls prepare for final road stretch of season

LARAMIE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Cowgirls open their final road trip of the season Thursday with a 7 p.m. trip to New Mexico. The matchup with the Lobos is Wyoming’s second-to-last road game of the 2022-23 season.

Thursday’s game will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and can be heard across the Cowgirl Radio Network with David Settle on the call.

Wyoming (17-8, 10-4 MW) is coming off a 2-0 week at home last week that was capped off with a 62-56 victory over Air Force. Allyson Fertig tallied a game-high 17 points, six rebounds and two blocks in the game and finished the week 15-of-15 from the floor. Quinn Weidemann and Malene Pedersen also finished the game in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

For her efforts last week, Pedersen was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season. Pedersen averaged 11.5 points, 5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game against Utah State and AFA while shooting 50% from the floor.

New Mexico is led by Shaiquel McGruder, who is averaging 13.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game this year. McGruder is also one of the Mountain West’s top defenders, averaging two blocks and 1.8 steals per contest, which ranks second and seventh respectively.

LaTascya Duff averages 13 points per game and leads the conference with 74 made 3-pointers while shooting 40-percent from beyond-the arc.
