C17 Crime Clips for Wednesday, Feb. 1

GILLETTE, Wyo.— Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

Fraud, Jan. 31, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, CCSO

Deputy Richard Lang said a 55-year-old woman reported at about 10:59 a.m. Jan. 31 to Campbell County Sheriff’s Office that she was experiencing debit card fraud. She has contacted her bank and will review charges to determine which belong to family members and which are likely fraudulent, Lang said.

Drugs, Jan. 31, Gurley Avenue/Santee Drive, CCSO

At about 8:47 p.m. Jan. 31, deputies stopped a 24-year-old man and 18-year-old woman who were in a silver 2004 Subaru Outback were stopped for expired registration, Lang said. He said a K-9 indicated on the vehicle, and the man was arrested on a warrant out of Campbell County circuit court for failure to appear on second driving under suspension, a warrant out of Campbell County district court bench warrant for bond revocation, driving under suspension, no insurance and expired registration. At the jail, deputies found suspected meth in the man’s wallet, Lang said. He was charged with 3rd or subsequent possession of meth, Lang said. The woman was issued a citation for use of a controlled substance, Lang said.

Burglary, Jan. 31, Rodgers Drive, GPD

A woman told police at 9:09 p.m Jan. 31 that she found a baggie with an unknown substance lying on the ground and a coin-operated washer and dryer with the coin boxes removed at the Budget Inn in Gillette, Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The owner said about $50 in quarters was missing and that he found a utility room door ajar, with about $500 in tools missing, Wasson said. The man told police he believed the incident occurred within the past week, Wasson said. There are no suspects, and police are investigating, Wasson said.

REDDI, Jan. 31, South Douglas Highway, GPD

At about 10:06 p.m., police responded to a REDDI report on a driver of a 1999 Ford pickup on South Douglas Highway and stopped the driver, a 23-year-old male driver, on Garner Lake Road for swerving, Wasson said. The man displayed indications of being intoxicated and performed standardized field sobriety tests, Wasson said. The driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, failure to maintain a lane and no insurance, according to Wasson.

Breach of peace, Jan. 31, South Douglas Highway, GPD

An 18-year-old man reported at 10:39 p.m. Jan. 31 that a 24-year-old man had contacted him at three locations — the Walmart parking lot, Fireside Bar and Mountain View Drive — and that the 24-year-old man was attempting to provoke a fight, Wasson said. Three people said they witnessed the incidents, Wasson said. The 24-year-old man denied the allegations, Wasson said. Gillette police are awaiting video surveillance footage, according to Wasson.
