GILLETTE, Wyo. — Happy Girls Don’t Do That raised roughly $3,200 through its first gala fundraiser, MaLinda Perry, who’s the Gallup Certified Strengths Coach at the helm of the organization, said today.
Perry said the goal for the fundraiser, which took place New Year’s Eve, was to encourage community awareness of and interest in the organization, which encourages youth to develop themselves personally and contribute to their communities and the world.
She said she’s “over the moon happy” about the financial results.
“For a first event to come out in the black is amazing!” she said. “We have amazing feedback from everyone. We were even told it was the most beautiful event they have ever attended.”
Boys and girls can both join chapters, including the one that’s launched in Gillette.
“Boys are equally affected by mean girls,” Perry said.
Membership dues for the Gillette chapter are $20 a year. Chapter President Patricia Hill and Chapter Adviser Heather Preswood of HUB International are leading the Gillette chapter, Perry said. The chapter will begin meeting twice a month as participation grows, Hill said.
The organization’s next event is the Positivity Conference, which is slated for Aug. 11 and 12. A “Pretty in Pink” gala will take place Dec. 30.
