GILLETTE, Wyo.— Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Traffic accident, Jan. 27, Interstate 90, CCSO
Deputies responded to a report at about 2:54 p.m. Jan. 27 that a silver car hit a guardrail while traveling east on Interstate 90 at about mile marker 113, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The guardrail flew across the road and several cars hit it, causing the cars’ tires to blow, Reynolds said. The driver of the silver car fled while deputies were responding, he said. The vehicle was described as a silver Mitsubishi with heavy frontend damage, and a deputy saw a vehicle matching that description while passing the Wild Horse Creek exit, reported it and continued to respond to the crash, Reynolds said. The deputy arrived at the scene shortly after Wyoming Highway Patrol arrived, he said. Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers found the vehicle and its driver, a 37-year-old woman, and found that she was impaired, Reynolds said. Wyoming Highway Patrol arrested her and investigated the crime, he said. The woman was cited with failure to maintain lane of travel, driving with canceled/suspended/revoked license, alcohol greater than .08%/DWUI, compulsory auto insurance, operating a motor vehicle without interlock device, seat belt restraint, and leaving the scene of an accident (other vehicle), according to Campbell County Sheriff’s Office arrest reports.
DOP, Jan. 29, Wright, CCSO
A 68-year-old man reported at 10:12 a.m. Jan. 29 that someone attempted to break into his employee’s residence and caused damage to the door, Reynolds said. There are no suspects at this time, and the report didn’t specify why the employer called on the employee’s behalf, Reynolds said.
Vandalism, Jan. 27, Gillette Avenue, GPD
A woman reported at 10 a.m. Jan. 27 that sometime between 10 a.m. Jan. 20 and 10 a.m. Jan. 27 that someone spraypainted two lewd pictures on the north side of her business in a small passageway, Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The business is in the 300 block of South Gillette Avenue, Wasson said.
Fraud, Jan. 27, Gillette, GPD
A woman reported Jan. 27 that she’d been contacted by a “company” that identified itself as “Life Streams” about getting a loan, Wasson said. A representative told the woman to provide gift cards totaling $2,720 to raise her credit score, he said. After sending images of the gift cards, the “company” demanded more money, Wasson said.
DUI, Jan. 28, Decoy Avenue, GPD
Police at 6:40 p.m. Jan. 28 arrested a 29-year-old man who was sleeping in a 2012 GMC pickup in the 3200 block of Decoy Avenue after they received a report that the vehicle was stopped, with the engine running, in the middle of the roadway, Wasson said. The man was uncooperative and wouldn’t unlock or open the door, Wasson said. Police broke the front passenger window and found that the man was obviously intoxicated, according to Wasson. Police transported the man to the detention center to perform standardized field sobriety tests and arrested him for DUI, Wasson said.
Aggravated assault, Jan. 28, Echeta Road, GPD
Gillette police arrested a 32-year-old man and charged him with two counts of aggravated assault at 10:52 p.m. Jan. 28, Wasson said. A 37-year-old woman, a 38-year-old woman and a 43-year-old woman were in a residence in Echeta Road with a 58-year-old man looking for a dog, Wasson said. The 43-year-old woman was yelling out for the dog from her vehicle and was approached by a 32-year-old man who apparently lives in the residence, Wasson said. The 32-year-old man began yelling profanities and produced a screwdriver, Wasson said. After the 32-year-old man struck the window and the roof of the vehicle that the four people were in, the 38-year-old woman attempted to defuse the situation, Wasson said. The 32-year-old raised the screwdriver and threatened to strike the 38-year-old in the head with it, according to Wasson. The 37-year-old woman pulled the 38-year-old woman away, believing it was a knife, and the 32-year-old raised the screwdriver again and threatened to stab the 37-year-old in the head, Wasson said. The 58–year-old man was able to calm down the 32-year-old man, who was contacted inside the residence and was arrested and charged with the two counts of aggravated assault, Wasson said. Wasson said he believes the women were looking for their dog and that it sounds like the 58-year-old and the 32-year-old were originally in the residence.
Injury to dog, Jan. 29, Rose Creek Drive, GPD
Police responded at 9:46 p.m. Jan. 29 to a report of an individual intentionally running over a dog, Wasson said. A 43-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman said a 33-year-old woman driving a 2013 GMC ran over the dog, Wasson said. The women reportedly were in a verbal dispute in front of the residence, as the 33-year-old woman was in her vehicle in the roadway, Wasson said. He said the 33-year-old woman reportedly attempted to drive away while the dog was in front of the vehicle, as the dog had been running around the vehicle, throughout the dispute. The dog appeared to be struck by the vehicle at a low speed, he said. The dog was able to walk out of the roadway without assistance and was transported to the veterinarian with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, Wasson said. The 33-year-old woman denied knowing that she struck the dog and denied intentionally trying to do so, he said. Officers were provided video of the incident and didn’t find vehicle damage or suspect criminal acts, according to Wasson. The dog was a 9-year-old pit bull and Cane Corso mixed breed, Wasson said.
