C17 Crime Clips for Friday, Jan. 27

GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

Theft, Jan. 26, S. Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers responded to the Ramada Plaza around 6:41 a.m. after a 26-year-old woman called to report a black cargo trailer with approximately $50,000 worth of belongings in it had been stolen, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The trailer was last seen on Jan. 25 around 7 p.m. and was valued at $7,300. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.

Crash, Jan. 26, N. Highway 59, CCSO

A 32-year-old man was not injured after he reportedly crashed his 2007 Chevrolet on the road to Camp Wildwood approximately two miles from N. Highway 59 yesterday around 10:28 a.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The vehicle left the roadway and slid down an embankment, striking multiple trees on the way. The crash resulted in over $1,000 in damage and no citations.

Theft, Jan. 26, Osborne Avenue, GPD

A package valued at $30 is reportedly missing following a delivery address mixup reported by a 45-year-old man on Osborne Avenue yesterday around 12:51 p.m., Wasson said. The package had been delivered to a residence on Emerson Avenue on Jan. 4, according to FedEx delivery records. When the man went to retrieve the package, it wasn’t there, per Wasson. A 52-year-old woman told officers that she had received the package and had delivered it to the man’s address. The man had reportedly ordered two identical packages, and the one remains missing as of Jan. 27. The investigation is ongoing.

Theft, Jan. 26, E. 5th Street, GPD

Officers took a report from an 18-year-old man yesterday around 5:35 p.m. who said two handguns were reportedly stolen from his vehicle on Jan. 25, Wasson said. A Glock 19 and a Springfield XD handgun have been identified as the missing firearms, both of which were entered into NCIC as stolen.

Suspicious activity, Jan. 26, Stanley Avenue, GPD

A 27-year-old woman called the police around 8:24 p.m. to report not receiving services that she paid $90 for, Wasson said. The woman said she ordered chocolate-covered strawberries and other items for her daughter’s third birthday but the person paid to deliver them did not show up. The investigation is ongoing.

Drugs, Jan. 27, Elon Avenue, GPD

Officers arrested a 36-year-old man for possession of marijuana and methamphetamine last night in the area of Elon Avenue and 12th Street around 1:02 a.m., Wasson said. The man was contacted after he was actively trying to avoid police officers in a blue Chevrolet by driving away at a high rate of speed and ditching the vehicle in an alleyway, Wasson said. Officers found the vehicle with no one inside but followed footprints to an apartment on Elon Avenue, locating a pill bottle with a half gram of suspected meth inside of it along the way. They spoke with a 25-year-old woman at the apartment and the 36-year-old man was observed hiding on the porch; the man allegedly admitted to owning the pill bottle. Officers searched the Chevrolet after a drug dog indicated there were controlled substances inside the vehicle and recovered a half gram of marijuana and methamphetamine paraphernalia, Wasson said. They also found a Sig Sauer 9mm handgun that the man reportedly dumped in a garbage can inside the Elon Avenue apartment. An investigation to determine if the man is disqualified from owning or possessing a firearm is currently ongoing, per Wasson.
