GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
CHINS, Jan. 19, N. Gurley Avenue, GPD
Officers responded to the YES House Crisis Shelter around 9:41 a.m. Jan. 19 after staff called to report an 8-year-old girl was attempting to break out a window, Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The girl reportedly left with a family member shortly after.
Fraud, Jan. 19, W. Boxelder Road, CCSO
An 80-year-old woman is out $653 which was reportedly taken from her after she fell victim to computer fraud around 10:19 a.m. yesterday, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The woman told deputies that her computer froze and that a number popped up for her to contact someone to address the issue. When she did, unknown suspects took the money. The investigation is ongoing.
Drugs, Jan. 19, Buckskin Drive, GPD
School staff called the police at 1:14 p.m. after an 8-year-old boy made comments that his mother, 31, and a 32-year-old man were reportedly smoking something out of a glass pipe, Wasson said. Officers responded to a residence on Buckskin Drive and contacted both adults, though they were only able to find Delta 8 inside during a consent search, per Wasson.
Property destruction, Jan. 19, S. Burma Avenue, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 46-year-old man for property destruction, breach of peace, having a deadly weapon, and robbery after he reportedly destroyed a camera at Campbell County Health and took a hospital security guard’s knife around 2:58 p.m., Reynolds said. The man had been at the hospital for a medical evaluation, and the investigation is ongoing.
Crash, Jan. 19, S. 4-J Road, GPD
A 16-year-old boy was ticketed for making an improper turn after he reportedly crashed his 2008 Lincoln into a 2017 Dodge SUV occupied by a 37-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl, Wasson said. The 16-year-old attempted to turn south onto 4-J Road when he failed to remain in the right lane and crossed over into the left. The collision resulted in over $1,000 in damage, Wasson said, adding that emergency medical services evaluated the 15-year-old girl for head and hip pain and the 16-year-old for head pain.
Crash, Jan. 19, Country Club Road, GPD
Officers ticketed a 15-year-old boy for driving without a license and failing to yield after he reportedly crashed a Honda into a 2016 Chevrolet operated by a 23-year-old woman at the intersection of Highway 59 and Country Club Road around 7:41 p.m., Wasson said. Both vehicles entered the intersection and the boy attempted to make a left turn, resulting in a crash. The woman was transported to the hospital for a nose injury and the boy was released to his parents.
