GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Campbell County Fire Department responded to the following incidents on Friday, Jan. 13:

At 10:52 a.m. to Country Club Road for an emergency medical response.
At 12:13 p.m. to Duffy Road for an emergency medical response.
At 1:01 p.m. to Country Club Road for an emergency medical response.
At 1:06 p.m. to Hannum Road for an emergency medical response.
At 3:24 p.m. to the intersection of Butler Speath Road and Harvest Mood Drive for a two-vehicle collision. Firefighters stabilized the vehicles and assisted with patient care.
At 5:52 p.m. to Darrell Street for an emergency medical response.

Year to date, the Campbell County Fire Department has responded to 107 requests for service.

Buffalo Ridge Elementary writing club sponsor Tiffany Mitchell said on Jan. 10 Emma Locken, one of her former students, led the club's students in creating a story together. Each group member took turns holding the yarn ball and adding to the story before throwing the ball to the next person.

Mitchell said Locken starts each club meeting with a writing prompt and snacks.

"[Locken] truly wants to promote the love of writing," Mitchell said. "She herself is one of the most talented writers I've had the privilege of knowing. ... She is an absolute sweetheart. It's been a joy to continue having a relationship with her over the years."

Sixteen high schools, including Thunder Basin High School and Campbell County High School, competed today in the Pat Weede Memorial Wrestling Tournament at the CAM-PLEX. The tournament continues Dec. 17 in CAM-PLEX's Wyoming Center.

The tournament honors the memory of Weede, a Campbell County School District physical teacher and wrestling coach who died in 2000 after battling cancer for two years, the tournament program said. Thunder Basin High School Principal Terry Quinn said Dec. 16 that Weede was a wonderful man whom he enjoyed working with.

If you couldn’t make it to the event today, come see dozens of Gillette community members’ displays tomorrow and Sunday at the Festival of Trees at CAM-PLEX.

Albrecht family members took a moment for a photo tonight at the event.

The event includes more than 50 trees, and there are also at least 15 tabletop displays.
Visitors can vote for their favorites.

This is the 31st year of the fundraiser. Proceeds benefit Lifeline, Cancer Care and Scholarship Fund, the event website said.
In 2004, Festival of Trees became part of the NEW Community Health Foundation.

Landry Haugen of Sturgis, South Dakota, competes in the goat tying event at the 75th Anniversary NRCA Finals Rodeo at CAMPLEX. Her time was 7.9 seconds.

The best time in the event was 7.1 for Karissa Rayhill of Torrington, WY.

While most competitors are from South Dakota, Stratton Kohr of Gillette and Jake Devereaux of Newcastle are scheduled to compete this weekend in calf roping.

Other events are Bareback, Barrels, Mixed Team Roping, Saddle Bronc, Steer Wrestling, Bulls and Breakaway.

In addition to tonight’s performance, there are performances at 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at CAMPLEX East Pavilion.

Hundreds lined the edges of U.S. Highway 14-16 from 4-J Road to Osborne Avenue Friday afternoon, bundled against the cold and waiving American flags while paying tribute to the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Come on down to the Powder River Antique and Craft Bonanza by Rockpile Museum Association at CAM-PLEX Central Pavilion.

It’s open tonight until 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow.

1. Carissa Roberts is selling vintage clothing at her first Rockpile Museum Association show. Roberts has sold at various shows and grew up in the trade show sales industry, too. Her mother is a crafter and sold at many craft shows. Roberts said that even when she was a child she learned so much from shows by meeting attendees while her mom sold handiwork.

2. Rockpile Museum Association is selling items too, including magnets, postcards and notecards showcasing the art of Dixie Reece, who was a Gillette-born artist and rancher.

3. Joni Hahn is representing 10 of the 55 vendors who participate in the Uniquely Wyoming store. Hahn made these snowmen figurines.

4. Dewayne Dillon from Sheridan is here too. He’s been collecting for 40 years and he’s selling his collection. A fan of local history of Sheridan, Dillon started out collecting beer, milk and pharmaceutical bottles and then added artwork as well.

5. Dillon said he’s particularly hoping this pen and ink illustration will go to a good home. The artist is from Sheridan. A Gillette framing shop framed this artwork, Dillon said.

The Merriman family from Rozet checked out the pumpkin patch at First United Methodist Church this afternoon!

The pumpkin patch and activities are open every day through Halloween or until they run out of pumpkins.

They’re open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Pumpkin Patch Coordinator Barb Anthes said about 75% of proceeds support pumpkins farmers in New Mexico. Other proceeds go to local charities. This year they’re supporting the elderly. This is the 10th year of the pumpkin patch event.

They got a half-semi of pumpkins delivered for the two week sale. That’s about 1,500 pumpkins. Counting little pumpkins, they still have close to 1,000 pumpkins.

The festival is free apart from pumpkin sales. Activities include photo props, jumbo checkers, slingshots and cornhole/bags.

The church is at 2000 W. Lakeway Road, Gillette.

Tomorrow there will be a harvest bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with more activities including inflatables, cotton candy, games and food.

The day before Halloween, the church will host Trunk or Treat from 4 to 6 p.m. with Cub Scouts.
