GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Criminal entry, Jan. 12, Hoback Avenue, GPD
A 28-year-old woman called the police after her 11-year-old daughter witnessed an unknown individual enter their residence without permission around 7:30 a.m. yesterday morning, GPD Lt. Jason Marcus said. The suspect, a man, left quickly after seeing the 11-year-old girl and the woman reported seeing the man leave the residence in a white vehicle. According to Marcus, the investigation is ongoing.
Forgery, Jan. 12, S. Douglas Highway, GPD
Officers were called to First Interstate Bank after a 58-year-old man learned that his 29-year-old nephew had forged his signature on a $1,400 check around 8:16 a.m., Marcus said. The check was intended for the 58-year-old man but arrived at the nephew’s residence. The investigation is ongoing.
Property destruction, Jan. 12, Dogwood Avenue, GPD
A 42-year-old woman reported to the police that someone shattered the windshield on a 2005 Toyota SUV that was parked near Sunflower Elementary around 12:44 p.m., Marcus said. The damage is believed to have occurred between 7:55 a.m. and 12:44 p.m. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
Assault, Jan. 12, Shoshone Avenue, GPD
Officers were contacted by staff at the Campbell County Recreation Center after an 18-year-old woman reportedly struck a 14-year-old girl on the back of her head during an altercation around 5 p.m., Marcus said. The 18-year-old told officers that she was upset at the girl, who was accompanied by two other juveniles, for making inappropriate gestures in the facility. She confronted the juveniles, at which point the 14-year-old confronted her in return. The 18-year-old grabbed the girl by the hair and struck the back of her head, per Marcus. The woman was cited for breach of peace, battery, and was verbally trespassed from the recreation center.
Blackmail, Jan. 13, Gurley Avenue, GPD
An 18-year-old man called the police shortly after midnight to report he was being blackmailed by a user on Snapchat, Marcus said. The man said a woman on the platform was demanding he pays $1,000 and threatened to post pictures of him online if he didn’t pay. The 18-year-old did not pay, and the investigation is ongoing.
Interference, Jan. 13, S. Douglas Highway, CCSO
Two individuals, one an 18-year-old woman and the other a 25-year-old man, were both arrested following a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Tahoe on South Douglas Highway around 2:56 a.m. this morning, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The woman reportedly provided a false name multiple times while speaking with deputies and the man was driving with a suspended Nebraska driver’s license. The woman was charged with interference and the man for DWUS, per Reynolds.
