Former councilmember, mayoral candidate files application for vacant Ward 3 city council seat

Nathan McLeland

GILLETTE, Wyo., –  Nathan McLeland has put his name in the hat for consideration by the Gillette City Council as an applicant to fill the vacant Ward 3 seat.

McLeland, previously representing Ward 3, chose not to run for his seat on the council during the 2022 General Election, choosing instead to run against Mayor Shay Lundvall as a mayoral candidate where he was ultimately defeated.

With McLeland’s application, the number of applicants has climbed from the previously reported four to a total of five with a little more than 24 hours remaining before the city stops accepting applications to fill the vacancy.

McLeland isn’t the only defeated 2022 election candidate to put his name in for consideration, he’s joined by resident Ed Sisti, who was defeated by Councilmember Heidi Gross.

Residents Abraham Van Horn, Richard Cone, and Ernest Gibson have also put their names forth as applicants.

The city council will interview candidates during their meeting on Jan. 17, after which they expect to make a decision on who will take the seat
