GILLETTE, Wyo. – The new year marked a milestone for Campbell County Health with emergency department and hospitalist services now under the management of Aligned Providers Wyoming, the hospital announced Thursday.
Serving more than 13 hospitals across Wyoming and Nebraska, APW is an emergency, urgent care, and hospitalist medicine management group that was formed in 2017 initially to serve Cheyenne Regional Medical Center’s emergency department, per the release.
As of Jan. 1, APW has begun providing emergency department and hospitalist services at CCH, the outcome of a discussion spanning months beginning in the fall of 2022, according to a Jan. 5 release.
The decision to outsource these services was made to increase the quality of care and efficiency in the emergency department and inpatient services, CCH says, adding that all emergency medicine and hospitalist physicians were given the option to remain working at CCH following the contract.
“18 emergency medicine and hospitalist physicians have chosen to remain with CCH,” the health organization said in the release. “Additionally, the APW team has recruited 14 emergency medicine and hospitalist physicians and seven advanced practice providers (physician assistants and advanced practice nurses) to meet CCH’s needs.”
With their new management plan, APW will incorporate advanced practice providers to work alongside physicians in the emergency department and is working with CCH to credential them by March 1.
In the interim, CCH says, APW has worked with the health organization to design a temporary physician-only emergency department staffing plan.
“We are confident that our partnership with APW will strengthen and enhance the level of care we provide to our community,” said CCH CEO Matt Shahan. “We are optimistic about the future for both our hospitalists and emergency medicine programs. We know that this change is a positive and necessary step towards embodying excellence every day and becoming the first choice for health care in Wyoming.”
Dr. Eugene Gicheru, APW president, said that the company is thrilled at the opportunity to serve another community in Wyoming.
“We are confident that the emergency department and inpatient services at CCH will grow even stronger as our relationships with the teams at CCH grow,” Gicheru said. “APW looks forward to working with CCH to provide outstanding, efficient emergency and hospitalist care for the Gillette community.”
