C17 Crime Clips for Wednesday, Jan. 4

GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

Theft, Jan. 3, Tyler Avenue, GPD

Officers took a report from a 49-year-old man around 10:26 a.m. who came to the police department to report his Samsung smartphone had been stolen in early December after he left it in an unlocked and running vehicle to charge, GPD Detective Sgt. Dean Welch said. The phone was valued at $500. Shortly after, the same man filed another report that whoever stole his phone had reportedly accessed his CashApp and had stolen around $1,200, Welch said. The 49-year-old man would not provide any potential suspect names, and the investigation is ongoing.

Intoxication, Jan. 3, S. Garner Lake Road, GPD

Emergency responders went to a residence on S. Garner Lake Road yesterday after a 62-year-old woman called to report she had fallen down due to being intoxicated and could not get up around 11:27 a.m., Welch said. The woman had a BAC of .34%, and has called seven times for similar instances since Dec. 17. She was issued a citation for intoxication and was transported to the emergency room for evaluation, according to Welch.

Crash, Jan. 3, Southern Drive, CCSO

A 37-year-old woman was not injured when she crashed her 2000 Ford Excursion into a power pole on Southern Drive yesterday around 12:20 p.m., Campbell County Sheriff Scott Matheny said. Her vehicle sustained over $1,000 in damage, but there was no damage to the power pole. No citations were issued, Matheny said.

Intoxication, Jan. 3, Richards Avenue, GPD

Officers arrested a 57-year-old man for intoxication after he impeded traffic while walking on Richards Avenue near Highway 14-16 around 1:44 p.m., Welch said. The man was reportedly walking on the road and vehicles were unable to get around him, which caused traffic to back up. The man had consumed a pint of vodka and refused medical evaluation. He will be released on zeroes, Welch said.

Drugs, Jan. 3, Nogales Way, GPD

An 18-year-old woman was arrested for felony possession of marijuana and minor in possession after she was reported to the police for smoking marijuana on her balcony on Nogales Way around 2:37 p.m., Welch said. When officers arrived, they could smell the odor of marijuana inside the building and around the woman’s door. She reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana and officers seized 94 grams of it as well as two nicotine vaping devices.

Property destruction, Jan. 3, Cypress Circle, GPD

A 38-year-old man called the police at 4:23 p.m. yesterday after mechanics confirmed sugar had been poured in the gas tank of his 2004 GMC Sierra, Welch said. As of Jan. 4, there’s no estimate on the damage that may have been done to his vehicle. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
