GILLETTE, Wyo. – A man died this morning after sustaining a gunshot wound to his head, authorities said Friday.
Details are scarce with the investigation currently ongoing, but the man was reportedly found by Gillette Police officers who responded to the 100 block of E. Laurel Street for the report of a gunshot around 2:40 a.m. on Dec. 16, according to Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson.
When officers arrived, the man was suffering from a gunshot wound to his head and was transported to Campbell County Health by emergency medical services where he was pronounced deceased, per Wasson.
Wasson declined to offer additional identifying information for the man as well as the circumstances surrounding the incident, citing an ongoing investigation on Dec. 16.
Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem also declined to release any identifying information for the man with his office still attempting to notify the man’s next of kin.
Wallem told reporters on Dec. 16 that the notification process could take longer than usual and would likely not have any more information on the incident today.
This is a developing story; County 17 will publish additional information as it becomes available.
Correction: A previous version of this story had a headline stating the incident occurred Tuesday. The story has been updated to reflect the incident occurred Friday morning.
