GILLETTE, Wyo. – Long-time educator and Elementary School Principal Bertine Bahige was recognized earlier this month by the Campbell County Commissioners as someone who goes above and beyond for his community.
Bahige, principal of Stocktrail Elementary, the only dual language immersion facility in Campbell County, was called before the commissioners during their regular meeting on Dec. 6 to receive a county challenge coin.
Commission Chairman Del Shelstad said the coin is part of a county process started three years ago to recognize people who go above and beyond and stand out as community members in Campbell County.
“You’re an amazing individual, and I think this is well-deserved,” Shelstad told Bahige on Dec. 6.
Bahige has been an educator in Campbell County for 17 years, a coach for 14 years, and a school principal for the last seven, he said. Outside of that, he currently serves as chairman of the Children Developmental Services Board and has served on the board for the St. John Paul II Catholic School.

He said that Gillette is his home and he looks at opportunities to serve as a way to give back to the community.
“I appreciate the opportunity to be here and to serve our community,” Bahige said. “It’s a pleasure. This place- they welcomed me and I’m proud to call Gillette home.”
