GILLETTE, Wyo. —The Powder River Energy Foundation, or PRECorp, and Basin Electric Power Cooperative together donated $8,000 to the Gillette Salvation Army to help meet rising demand for services.

Director Jenny Hartung said in a Dec. 12 PRECorp news release that the organization, which serves at-risk and low-income families, has received 30% more requests for help compared with this time of 2021. Donations haven’t kept up with the demand, she said. The donations from PRECorp and Basin Electric will increase Salvation Army’s rental assistance budget for helping families stay in permanent housing as they work toward financial independence, she said.

The Foundation has given meat and monetary donations in the past, but this is a record for a single Foundation grant to the Salvation Army, according to the release.

“We are truly grateful,” Hartung said.

The foundation donated $4,000, which Basin Electric matched. Basin Electric is PRECorp’s wholesale power supplier. It operates Dry Fork Station in Gillette.
