GILLETTE, Wyo. – The Wyoming Department of Transportation plans to close US Highway 14A through the Bighorn Mountains for the season starting Monday.
The closure, which is done on a seasonal basis as a safety precaution, comes amid significant amounts of snowfall combined with strong winds and minimal traffic, per WYDOT, which says the highway will be closed at noon on Nov. 21.
Crews from both Lovell and Burgess Junction will make one last sweep of the U.S. 14A route on Monday to ensure all motorists are off the mountain before closing the gates for the season, according to WYDOT.
Once the gates are closed, US 14A will be closed to traffic from Burgess Junction east of milepost 98.1 and from the Lovell side of the mountain starting near milepost 76.04, WYDOT says.
