New Walk-in Clinic doctor announced at Campbell County Health

GILLETTE, Wyo. – There’s a new physician at the Walk-in Clinic, Campbell County Health announced Tuesday.

Dr. James Griggs joined CCH at the end of September, after making a long-awaited move to the Gillette area from Florida with his family, per an Oct. 25 release.

“I kind of just fell in love with the area about a decade ago, and until now never had the opportunity to get back out here,” Griggs said in a statement. “My wife enjoys having a change of seasons here, and I love the open plains of the area.”

Originally on the engineering and mathematics path, Griggs gravitated towards the medical profession after taking courses in first responder medicine to train as an EMT, CCH says, and eventually decided to pursue his medical degree.

“The human element is what brings more uniqueness to it,” said Griggs about his shift away from his original career path. “You get the opportunity to genuinely connect with folks–something I realized I needed to have in my career.”

Griggs has his medical degree from the Ross University School of Medicine in the Commonwealth of Dominica and completed his family medicine residency at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, per CCH.

He was drawn towards urgent care due to his early first responder coursework, particularly meeting new people, and finds it rewarding to be a calming presence to patients who can sometimes be confused, frightened, and concerned when they visit urgent care, CCH says.

“We are excited to welcome (Griggs) to the community, to CCH,” the release states. “We are proud to have such a dedicated urgent care physician caring for our community in the Walk-in Clinic.”
