CHEYENNE Wyo. — Human remains discovered last week in a wooded area south of Rawlins have been identified as Mark Strittmater, a hunter who went missing three years ago, the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday.
There is no evidence of foul play, the CCSO said.
The discovery of a firearm by hunters in the area on Sunday, October 16, lead to the search. The remains were found in a densely wooded area about 325 yards from the initial missing-person searches carried out three years ago.
The identification was made through dental records.
The CCSO said it is pleased to have some resolution in the long-running case, and extends its sympathies to Strittmater’s family and friends.
