GILLETTE, Wyo. – The O-SO Fun Dog Park is closed due to possible parvovirus contamination, according to the City of Gillette.
According to the American Veterinary Medicine Association, canine parvovirus is a highly contagious virus that is spread from dog-to-dog contact as well as contact with contaminated feces, environments, and people.
It is a potentially fatal disease that can affect all dogs, but puppies younger than four months are the most at risk, per AVMA.
The virus is extremely resilient and can survive in the environment, including the ground and soil, for long periods of time, AVMA says.
According to an Oct. 7 social media post by the City of Gillette, the O-SO Fun Dog Park, located at Hannum Road and E. Warlow Drive, will remain closed until further notice.
This is a developing story; additional details will be made available as information becomes available.
