Man points shotgun at woman, charged with aggravated assault

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Campbell County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man yesterday for allegedly threatening a woman with a shotgun, Sheriff Scott Matheny said Thursday.

Cory Hopkins, 63, is charged with felony aggravated assault relating to allegations that he pulled a shotgun out of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado and pointed it at a landowner on Bitter Creek Road yesterday around 10:25 a.m., Matheny said.

The landowner owner told deputies that she approached the vehicle after seeing it driving slowly to inform the occupants that the land on either side of the drive was private property. As she approached, Matheny continued, Hopkins exited the passenger side and retrieved the shotgun that he then pointed at the woman through her windshield.

Hopkins is believed to have approached the landowner’s vehicle and held the shotgun “military-style” at his shoulder while telling her she was harassing him and that, “she was going to [expletive] pay for this,” Matheny said.

Deputies found Hopkins at a residence on Brooks Avenue where he denied pointing the gun at the woman, that it was and claimed he feared for his life because he was confronted two years ago at the same location, per Matheny.
