Gillette library opens photography contest for teenagers

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Following Campbell County youths’ request, the Campbell County Public Library’s Young Adult Department is hosting a Teen Fall Photography Contest this year, Youth Services Coordinator Marcy Mathis said Oct. 6.

Artists in seventh through 12th grades can enter one photo per each of the following categories: scenery, portrait and other. Scenery photos are nature-related, portrait photos showcase a human being and the other category is for photos of anything that doesn’t fit those categories.

Photographers who submit photos that include people must get permission from the person for display at the library. The model must sign the entry form.

All photo entries must be original, not copyrighted and library appropriate. They must be in an 8-inch by 10-inch aspect ratio. Otherwise, staff will crop the artwork to fit that size, at their discretion.

Youths can email their photo file and entry form to teenroom@ccpls.org or bring it in a USB driver to the Teen Room desk. Mathis said hard copies of entry forms will become available.

Entries are due by 8:30 p.m. Nov. 14, and winners will be announced Nov. 21, the contest entry form said. Entries will be displayed in the teen room in October and November.

The Friends of the Library will give gift cards to local businesses for the winner of each category. Voters will decide the winners by voting at the library and via Facebook.

Mathis said library staff haven’t yet decided who will be eligible to vote.
