GILLETTE, Wyo. — Stephan Zacharias, whose last day as a museum educator at the Rockpile Museum was Sept. 17, explained his decision in a Sept. 20 email to County 17.
“Over the course of my time in Gillette it became clear to me I don’t have thick enough skin to be successful at the museum and in the community,” he said. “I failed over the course of my nearly four years there to build a successful following/support for programming and events. And as the Museum Educator tasked with Adult Programs & Community Outreach it just became a task/challenge that was too great for me to take on my own.”
Zacharias said he submitted his resignation at the beginning of September and stayed to complete the Archaeology Fair as it was his last assigned task on the current calendar.
“That way no one had to cover or pick up my slack,” he said.
He said he’s not sure what his next steps are. For the next few weeks though, he’ll be helping some family members in another part of the country.
Rockpile Museum Director Robert Henning said Zacharias will be missed.
“Stephan worked hard and created some amazing programs for the museum and our community,” Henning said. “We thank him for his service and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
