GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Hit and run, Sept. 20, Ledoux Avenue, GPD
Officers located and stopped a 2006 Chrysler in the area of Ledoux Avenue after it reportedly struck an unoccupied Chevrolet and left the scene around 7:40 a.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The incident was reported by a witness and the man was reportedly found to be intoxicated. He was arrested after failing field sobriety maneuvers, Wasson said, adding that the man was also charged with driving under suspension.
Tobacco violation, Sept. 20, E. 7th Street, GPD
A 14-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl were both cited for underage tobacco use at 11:35 a.m. yesterday at Twin Spruce Jr. High School for a Sept. 19 incident where they were reportedly caught vaping on a school bus, Wasson said. The 13-year-old admitted to officers that she took the device from her mother, and both admitted to using it.
Drugs, Sept. 20, Kristan Avenue, GPD
A 29-year-old man was cited for using a controlled substance and was arrested at the request of the Probation and Parole Office for a 3-day hold after he was found using drugs at a residence on Kristan Avenue, Wasson said. Officers responded to the residence tro assist with a search. The man was located in an enclosed trailer with needle marks on his arms; he allegedly admitted to getting high.
Trespassing, Sept. 20, Powder River Road, CCSO
Deputies responded to the area of Powder River Road, near Barber Creek Road, to investigate a report of trespassing filed by a 43-year-old property owner around 5:37 p.m., according to Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds. It was found that a 52-year-old man had trespassed on private property while accessing public land to scout for elk. The man was cited for criminal trespass at the request of the property owner.
Shoplifting, Sept. 20, S. Douglas Highway, GPD
Officers cited a 32-year-old man, a 29-year-old man, and a 20-year-old woman for shoplifting after they allegedly attempted to steal $131.78 worth of magic cards and air fresheners from Walmart around 6:16 p.m., Wasson said. They were seen taking the items and giving them to the 32-year-old who put them in his backpack. The items were returned when the man was confronted by store staff.
DWUI, Sept. 20, Camel Drive, CCSO
A 45-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving after he reportedly failed to stop at a red light and nearly struck a deputy’s patrol vehicle at the eastbound I-90 off-ramp and S. Douglas Highway at 9:34 p.m., Reynolds said. The deputy followed the suspect vehicle, a white 2020 Honda, into the McDonald’s parking lot on Camel Drive. The 45-year-old man refused to step out of the vehicle, Reynolds said, and deputies removed him and took him into custody. A warrant was filed for a sample of the man’s blood after he refused to provide a breath sample at the Campbell County Detention Center.
