Friends of Bryan Morgan started a Facebook group to try to help find him.

GILLETTE, Wyo. — A body found in a recreation area north of Gillette earlier this week has been identified as missing Gillette man Bryan E. Morgan, Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem said Friday.

Morgan, 37, was located in the Weston Hills Recreation Area on Sept. 14 around 10 a.m. following a three-day, multi-agency search effort that began after a vehicle associated with him was found in the parking area earlier this week, Campbell County Sheriff Scott Matheny said on Sept. 15.

Morgan had been missing since Sept. 2; he was last seen at a house belonging to his father, Daryl Morgan, who reportedly filed a missing person report with both the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and the Gillette Police Department.

According to Wallem, Morgan’s body was identified on Sept. 15 and the cause of death is a gunshot wound to the head.

Matheny was not available on Sept. 16 to answer questions about whether an investigation into Morgan’s death is currently being handled by his office.

Gillette police had an active missing person investigation ongoing when the body was recovered; however, their involvement was to end and the death investigation would be passed on to the sheriff’s office if the body was identified as Morgan, according to Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson.
