WYDOT thermoplastic marking begins Aug. 30 on Wyoming 59

GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation and contractor Traffic Safety Services will begin placing thermoplastic markings Aug. 30 on Wyoming 59 in Gillette.

The contractor will perform the operations at night. Closures will likely run from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., from that date through Sep. 6, an Aug. 26 news release said.

Work in Sheridan begins Aug. 29 on I-90 at the Piney Creek Interchange before moving east to Newcastle, the release said.

Highways include portions of I-90 in Sheridan and Gillette, WYO 59, WYO 50, WYO 51, WYO 387 near Wright, US 14 and WYO 585 near Sundance, and US 85, US 16 and US 16 BUS near Newcastle.

WYDOT District 4 Sr. Public Relations Specialist Laura Dalles said residents near Wright can expect to see work being done near them from roughly 6 p.m. Sept. 7 to 6 a.m. Sept. 8.

Overall, the project is scheduled to run from Aug. 29 to Sept. 12.

All project timing is weather dependent.

Thermoplastic striping is more durable compared with traditional striping, particularly in high-traffic areas, the release said. Thermoplastic striping typically includes pedestrian crossings, turning arrows, and stop bars.

This will be a mobile work zone with slow-moving striping equipment so the department encourages motorists to drive slowly, obey traffic control, stay alert through the work zones. It’s best if motorists also time their trips accordingly, the release said.

Dalles said timing trips accordingly could involve avoiding those roads at those times, scheduling more time in travel plans or both.
