C17 Crime Clips for Tuesday, Aug. 16

GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

Threats, Aug. 15, E. 5th Street, GPD

A 27-year-old woman in Washington called the GPD yesterday at 8:50 a.m.to report getting a threatening phone call from a man with a Wyoming number, according to Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson. The woman also provided a voicemail from the number where she heard what sounded like a woman screaming, though it sounded like a movie recording, per Wasson. Officers contacted a 42-year-old local man associated with the number, but he hadn’t had that number for some time.

Fraud, Aug. 15, W. Boxelder Road, CCSO

A local woman contacted the sheriff’s office yesterday at 1:30 p.m.to report she made a mistake by giving her social security number to a man named “Harry Taylor” who asked her for it through a texting app, according to Campbell County Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds. She was told to contact the FBI, Social Security Administration, and the credit reporting agencies.

Theft, Aug. 15, Shoshone Avenue, GPD

Someone stole four rings, with a combined value of $4,000, that belonged to a 39-year-old woman who left them in an unsecured locker at the Campbell County Recreation Center around 2:55 p.m., Wasson said. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.

Theft, Aug. 15, Hunt Avenue, GPD

Officers arrested a 22-year-old man for theft after he reportedly stole a security access card and used profanities towards staff at Campbell County Health at 4:17 p.m., Wasson said. The man was found on Hunt Avenue, where he was also charged with criminal trespass and breach of peace.

Arson, Aug. 15, Echeta Road, GPD

An 8-year-old girl reportedly started a fire on Echeta Road yesterday with a lighter around 5:38 p.m., Wasson said. The girl reportedly admitted to starting the fire. She, and her 37-year-old mother, were spoken to about the early age intervention program. There was no damage to property, Wasson said.

DWUI, Aug. 15, W. Boxelder Road, CCSO

Deputies arrested a 31-year-old man at his residence after he reportedly failed his 24/7 breathe test at the sheriff’s office and left around 7:30 p.m., Reynolds said. The man was charged with his 3rd DWUI in 10 years.

Drugs, Aug. 15, Camel Drive, CCSO

A 58-year-old man was arrested for drug possession after deputies reportedly located marijuana and methamphetamine in his vehicle on Camel Drive around 8:45 p.m., Reynolds said. The man’s vehicle reportedly smelled of marijuana, and he gave deputies his consent for them to search it.

Drugs, Aug. 16, I-90, GPD

Officers arrested a 25-year-old woman for unlawful possession of methamphetamine after finding baggies of methamphetamine while searching her car at the port of entry due to the odor of marijuana around 12:55 a.m., Wasson said. The vehicle, a 2004 Pontiac, was stopped for no registration.

DWUI, Aug. 16, Butler Spaeth Road, GPD

A 20-year-old woman was arrested for possessing and consuming alcohol under 21, as well as intoxicated driving, after being found with a plethora of alcoholic beverages during a traffic stop on Butler Spaeth Road around 2:30 a.m., according to Wasson. She had an open bottle of Coors Light, half a bottle of moonshine, 11 unopened Twisted Teas, and one open Twisted Tea. She was also cited for a stop sign violation, per Wasson.
