C17 Crime Clips for Tuesday, Aug. 9

GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

Intoxication, Aug. 8, Green Avenue, GPD

Officers arrested a 52-year-old man for intoxication after he was reported for sleeping in the street near Green Avenue and 9th Street around 7:44 a.m., according to Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson. The man displayed signs of intoxication and reportedly admitted to lying in the street. He was unable to call anyone to care for him and was taken into custody.

Suspicious activity, Aug. 8, S. Burma Avenue, GPD

An employee of the Department of Family Services contacted the police yesterday 12:49 p.m. after maternity ward staff at Campbell County Health reported a mother, who was not identified, tested positive for cocaine after giving birth, Wasson said. The investigation is ongoing.

False identification, Aug. 8, E. 4th Street, GPD

Staff at the Powder River WorkSafe called the police after they received suspicious identification cards from two men who came in for pre-employment drug testing around 1:35 p.m., Wasson said. They left before police arrived, and officers forwarded the information onto Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Fire ban violation, Aug. 8, Highway 450, CCSO

Fire personnel and deputies responded to a residence on Highway 450 yesterday at 1:57 p.m. for the report of a fire, according to Campbell County Sheriff Scott Matheny. When they arrived, responders located containers of trash that were actively burning despite ongoing burn restrictions and were not being attended. The fires were put out and a burn ban notice was left on the residence because the homeowner was not there, per Matheny, who said the homeowner later called and apologized.

Theft, Aug. 8, Cradle Butte Road, CCSO

A 30-year-old woman called the sheriff’s office yesterday at 4:32 p.m. to report someone had stolen a package from her mailbox, Matheny said. The package contained $28 worth of items and is believed to have been taken on July 22. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.

Crash, Aug. 8, S. Garner Lake Road, GPD

A 52-year-old man was cited for improper lookout after he reportedly crashed into a 24-year-old woman while making a left turn from the CBH-Coop onto S. Garner Lake Road, Wasson said. The male told police that his view was obstructed by another vehicle; the crash caused over $1,000 in damage. The 24-year-old woman complained of neck and head pain but refused transport to the emergency room.
