GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Crash, Aug. 4, S. Garner Lake Road, GPD
No one was injured when a 2007 Interstate overturned on S. Garner Lake Road, near E. Sinclair Street, after the 37-year-old man who was driving fell asleep at the wheel at 12:41 p.m., according to Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson. The vehicle initially left the roadway and rolled onto its passenger side when he tried to correct it. The man had scrapes and bruises but refused medical attention. The crash caused over $1,000 in damage, and officers did not issue any citations.
Crash, Aug. 4, Boxelder Road, GPD
Officers responded to Boxelder Road around 8:12 p.m. last night after a 65-year-old woman, driving a 2006 Dodge, became stuck near the construction zone, Wasson said. She had been trying to turn around and her front wheel fell into a cut-out, causing over $1,000 in damage to her vehicle. No citations were issued.
Protection order violation, Aug. 4, Georgia Circle, GPD
A 19-year-old man was arrested for violating a protection order after police responded to a report of an assault on Georgia Circle at 8:28 p.m., Wasson said. The man told officers that his girlfriend, 18, assaulted him and that he defended himself. She claimed he assaulted her, and she defended herself. There was an active protection order prohibiting the man from contacting the woman or being at her residence, Wasson said, and he was taken into custody.
Weapon offense, Aug. 4, Duffy Road, CCSO
Deputies responded to a residence on Duffy Road after a 61-year-old man called to report seeing someone shooting a gun at the ground multiple times around 8:28 p.m., according to Campbell County Sheriff Scott Matheny. The man shooting the gun was a 38-year-old man who told deputies that he was shooting the gun to get a feel for it. He said he would stop and wouldn’t do it again. Deputies determined the direction in which the gun was shot was safe and took no further action.
Intoxication, Aug. 5, Country Club Road, GPD
Officers arrested a 47-year-old man for intoxication after he was found sitting with his legs in the roadway at the Thunder Rock Apartments on Country Club Road around 12:18 a.m., Wasson said. The man displayed signs of intoxication and was unable to call anyone to come pick him up.
