GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Crash, Aug. 2, S. Douglas Highway, GPD
A 36-year-old woman and a 6-month-old baby were both transported to the emergency room for evaluation after their vehicle, a 2022 Toyota, was struck by a 2009 Peterbilt at the intersection of Southern Drive and S. Douglas Highway, according to Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson. The Toyota was crossing the highway with a green light when the Peterbilt ran a red light, resulting in the collision, Wasson said, adding that the baby was uninjured, but the woman had a possible leg injury. The driver of the Peterbilt, a 41-year-old man, was cited for violating a red light.
Domestic assault, Aug. 2, Highway 387, CCSO
A 33-year-old man was arrested for domestic assault after he was reportedly witnessed striking a 39-year-old woman in a 1996 Chevrolet parked in Wright, according to Campbell County Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds. Deputies responded to Panther Pond, where the car was parked, at 10:35 a.m. and spoke with them, though both denied anything physical occurred. The man was arrested after deputies received multiple witness accounts stating he hit the woman, Reynolds said.
Suspicious activity, Aug. 3, Boxelder Road, GPD
A 47-year-old woman at the La Quinta Inn called the police at 3:16 p.m. to report a fraudulent charge on her husband’s Venmo account using a card that he reportedly lost at the post office, Wasson said. While speaking with police dispatch, an unidentified woman arrived at the hotel and told the female she would return the card if the 47-year-old hung up the phone. She left after the 47-year-old woman confronted her, prior to police arriving on the scene, Wasson said. Both the 47-year-old woman and her husband were uncooperative with police and refused to press charges, per Wasson.
Shoplifting, Aug. 2, S. Douglas Highway, GPD
Officers arrested a 37-year-old woman for shoplifting after she caught trying to take $29 worth of items from Walmart around 4:18 p.m., Wasson said. The woman reportedly admitted to the attempted theft and was also given another citation for a previous shoplifting incident from J
DWUI, Aug. 3, E. Lakeway Road, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 47-year-old woman for driving under the influence of a controlled substance after stopping her for multiple traffic violations in a 2012 Chevrolet Cruz on E. Lakeway Road around 1:30 a.m., Reynolds said. She spoke very slowly and told deputies that her dog bumped her and that caused the bad driving. She also admitted to taking her prescription medication earlier that evening and had woken up to get gas.
