WYDOT chip sealing road projects will include 5 in Campbell County

GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation’s District 4 has several upcoming chip sealing projects in Campbell County.

The projects are part of its annual chip sealing projects in northeast Wyoming, a WYDOT news release said. In the next five weeks, WYDOT and its contractor, Bituminous Paving Inc., will be chip sealing more than 30 locations and 75 miles of highway, in Sheridan, Johnson, Campbell, Crook and Weston counties.

Chip sealing increases traction and preserves the roadway, the department said.

WYDOT asks motorists to obey traffic control, eliminate any distractions, avoid black asphalt emulsion, maintain respectable following distance of other vehicles and expect short delays as they navigate through these paving operations.

Pilot cars will escort motorists through work zones at lower speeds to avoid kicking up gravel that could potentially result in broken windshields, the department said.

Wyoming Department of Transportation District 4 Sr. Public Relations Specialist Laura Dalles said July 20 that Campbell County residents can anticipate the following projects, on the following dates:

  • July 30: WYO 50 Savageton mile markers 31.9 to 36
  • Aug 1/2: I-90 Kingsbury Section mile markers 96 to 108, east and westbound lanes
  • Aug 3: WYO 50 Gillette to Savageton mile markers 5 to 10
  • Aug 4: WYO 50 Near Clark mile markers 10 to 15
  • Aug 6: South Gillette/4-J Road mile markers 2 to 3

Dates are subject to change. For example, inclement weather and any breakdowns that could occur may impact scheduling, Dalles said.
