GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Destruction of property, July 5, Ridgecrest Drive, GPD
A 68-year-old man called the police yesterday shortly after 7 a.m. to report someone had blown up his mailbox on Ridgecrest Drive sometime since July 4, according to Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson. It appeared as if someone had set off an explosive inside the mailbox; the damage was estimated to be around $50, and the investigation is ongoing, per Wasson.
Child neglect, July 5, Enzi Drive, GPD
Officers responded to a report of two juveniles, one a 7-year-old boy and the other a 4-year-old girl, running into traffic at the intersection of Enzi Drive and Southern Drive around 2:07 p.m., Wasson said. The children were supposed to be under the supervision of a 68-year-old woman but had exited her apartment on Express Drive without her knowing, per Wasson. Officers were able to contact the children’s mother, a 27-year-old woman, who took them home. A report was forwarded to the Department of Family Services, Wasson said.
Drugs, July 5, Highway 50, CCSO
A 22-year-old man was arrested for marijuana possession yesterday after a deputy, who stopped to check on him on the side of Highway 50, found him with .2 grams of marijuana around 2:30 p.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The man had run out of gas and told the deputy he was returning from Denver, Colorado, after the holiday weekend. He consented to a search of his vehicle, a 2001 GMC Sonoma, which is when the marijuana was located, per Reynolds.
Drugs, July 6, S. Douglas Highway, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 39-year-old man for violating the terms of his probation and possession of marijuana after stopping him for multiple traffic violations on S. Douglas Highway around 12:30 a.m., Reynolds said. The man was on unsupervised probation for drug possession and a K9 indicated on his vehicle, a black Chrysler Pacifica. Deputies located 4 grams of suspected marijuana, Reynolds said.
DWUI, July 6, Warlow Drive, GPD, CCSO
Officers responded to Bicentennial Park at 12:30 a.m. after a 33-year-old woman reported seeing a 2022 Dodge pickup hit a 2021 Ford Bronco and a 2019 Jeep Cherokee before leaving the area, Wasson said. Witnesses noted the suspect vehicle’s license plate, and it was located at a 38-year-old man’s house in Wright by Campbell County Sheriff’s deputies, per Wasson. The male reportedly admitted to drinking, Reynolds said, and deputies took the male into custody for driving while intoxicated. Offices also cited him for leaving the scene of a crash, driving without a license, and operating a vehicle without an interlock device.
