GILLETTE, Wyo.- Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Narcotics, June 21, N. Miller Avenue, GPD
A 41-year-old male was transported to the hospital after he was found having a seizure on N. Miller Avenue around 10:35 a.m. yesterday morning, according to Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson, who said the male was later pronounced deceased. Drug paraphernalia was found in the male’s residence, Wasson confirmed, though he did not state any further details with the male’s death under investigation.
Child neglect, June 21, Church Avenue, GPD
Officers responded to a report of an unattended two-year-old male wandering around Church Avenue and 12th Street around 10:42 a.m. yesterday, Wasson said. They were not able to locate the child’s parents and he was taken into protective custody by the Department of Family Services. Approximately one hour later, Wasson continued, the child’s mother, a 29-year-old female, called to report her son was missing and was contacted by DFS.
Breach of peace, June 21, E. 5th Street, GPD
A 16-year-old male was cited for verbal breach of peace after he allegedly shouted profanities at his mother and attempted to provoke an altercation with her following a session in municipal court at 11:23 a.m., Wasson said. The male fled from City Hall, but he was located a short while later and ticketed, per Wasson.
Welfare check, June 21, Idaho Street, GPD
A 42-year-old male called the police department yesterday at 5:28 p.m. to request a welfare check on a 48-year-old female who he said sent him a concerning text message and hasn’t been heard from since June 20, Wasson said. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was notified after the woman’s phone pinged near Crazy Woman Canyon and responded to the area to look for her. Johnson County deputies reportedly found the female unconscious in her vehicle; she was later pronounced deceased, Wasson said. The investigation is being handled by JCSO.
Stolen property, June 21, Richards Avenue, GPD
Officers responded to Richards Avenue yesterday at 5:30 p.m. after a 29-year-old female called to report a parking violation, Wasson said. The female told officers that a white Dodge pickup had been parked on the side of the street since early June and hadn’t moved. A VIN inspection revealed the pickup had been stolen from Sheridan and officers notified the 45-year-old male owner of its recovery.
Drugs, June 22, E. 5th Street, GPD
A 58-year-old male was arrested for possession of marijuana and methamphetamine after officers stopped him for an inoperable taillight on a 1969 Volkswagen on E. 5th Street at 1:10 a.m., Wasson said. During the stop, officers saw drug paraphernalia on the floorboard and a subsequent search yielded 5 grams of suspected marijuana, per Wasson, and a pipe in his pocket had meth residue. The male was also supposed to have an interlock device in the vehicle and was ticked for not having one.
