Campbell County may allow community to use pool for free this summer

GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Campbell County Parks and Recreation Board may allow the community to use its pool for free at times while Gillette’s pool is under construction.

The board approved a memorandum of understanding Thursday night at a special board meeting to provide free open swim use of the recreation center pool from at least 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. every day the pool is open from July 1 through Aug. 21 2022 and May 25 through Aug. 20 of 2023.

The City Pool, at 909 S. Gillette Ave., will be closed for demolition and capital improvements during those summer seasons, the MOU said. The MOU’s term could be extended if the department and city agree to do so.

The city would pay the department $40,000 each summer. The department would bear the responsibility of liability, ownership, operation, staffing, maintenance and public health compliance.

The agreement will be presented to the Gillette City Council at its June 21 meeting for consideration, Campbell County Parks and Recreation Executive Director Dwayne Dillinger said Friday.
