GILLETTE, Wyo. — Findings associated with an assessment to determine the health needs of the community were recently approved by the Campbell County Health Board of Trustees.
The board voted to approve the 2022-2024 Community Health Needs Assessment during a special board meeting on June 7, giving their stamp of approval to the 30-page document that identified more than a dozen significant health issues in the local community
Every three years, the assessment is conducted in collaboration with community organizations and other healthcare providers to identify community health needs, and that information, in turn, is used to aid the development of an implementation strategy to address those needs, according to a June 14 press release from CCH.
The issues identified in the 2022-2024 assessment included access to care, substance abuse and suicide prevention, cancer and chronic disease, maternal health, and domestic abuse, among several others.
“Healthcare organizations across the country are increasingly being called upon to help support the priorities identified in their communities and states,” Matt Shahan, CCH CEO, said in the release. “The health issues in this document are closely aligned with what we know are concerns both locally and in Wyoming.”
He said that CCH sees the identified issues as an opportunity to work collaboratively with other organizations to make tangible improvements in community health.
Board of Trustees Vice Chair Alan Stuber said the document is a great reference for the health organization’s planning process.
“It really gives the board some clear guidance on where we can make the greatest impact with the resources CCH can bring to the table,” Stuber said in the release.
CCH will be looking to develop specific implementation strategies in the coming months to address the identified community health priorities, per the release.
