GILLETTE, Wyo.— A Virginian author with Campbell County roots will have a meet and greet in Gillette this weekend where she will be signing copies of her historical work on local families.
Lorna J. Whisler, author of “Rozet, Campbell County, Wyoming and its Homestead Families” will be at the Campbell County Rockpile Museum on Saturday, May 14, the museum announced in a release.
Whisler was born in Rozet, Wyoming, and graduated from Campbell County High School in 1954 ahead of a long career as a civilian working for the Bureau of Navy Personnel in Arlington, Virginia, per the Rockpile.
It was her love of history, the release continues, that drove her to begin researching the origins of her paternal and maternal grandparents who homesteaded in the Gillette area in 1913 and 1912. During her research, she spent countless hours in courthouse basements, libraries, and cemeteries across the United States and Canada.
Whisler compiled her research into a book after she was approached by several of her cousins who wanted to know about their own great-grandparents.
She now resides in Natural Bridge, Virginia.
