High schools from all over the state compete in the 54th annual Wyoming High School Art Symposium

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Art and raw talent is on display this week from all over the state. This year the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper is happy to host the 54th Annual Wyoming High School Art Symposium.

Starting Thursday, April 21, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, April 22nd, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. you can come explore and the world of high school art. As the the largest statewide art exhibition there is much to be seen. Among the art you might also find opportunities for “Inspiration, competitions, and scholarship opportunities.”

The event begins Wednesday, but public eyes are welcome Thursday and Friday and admission to the Ford Wyoming Center is free.

The Symposium is hosted by Wyoming Secondary Art Educators Association (WSAEA) which is non-profit that is a coalition of schools and teachers coming together to ” To promote quality education in art for Wyoming students through the advancement of the secondary state art symposium, teacher in-service, communication, and professional development.”

According to a release the 54th annual event is estimating 5000 pieces of student artwork to be on display, with approximately 1500 students, 75 high school art educators, and several colleges and art institute representatives participate in this event. The art products are on display by national and local art vendors.

Students will get a chance to not only show of their art, but also, learn from “demonstrations, workshops and presentations are available to them on Thursday and Friday.”

The release says, ” The Congressional Art Awards are announced which are selected by independent judges from the Rocky Mountain Region. 24 outstanding pieces of two-dimensional artwork are chosen, and one selected piece will be honored in a display at the nation’s capital. A companion exhibit, 3-Dimensional Artistic Discovery was created to show the range of 3D work which is being created by students in the state. 10-15 pieces are selected by outside jurors.”
