GILLETTE, Wyo.— Gillette police are continuing their investigation into the disappearance of 32-year-old local resident Irene Wairimu Gakwa who went missing from the Gillette area in late February.
“We have been able to interview multiple family members and known associates,” Gillette Deputy Chief of Police Brent Wasson said during a brief April 1 update on the investigation. “We have requested digital information and are processing some of those results and awaiting others.”
Irene was reported missing on March 20 by a family member who told police she had not been seen since Feb. 24, according to a City of Gillette social media post requesting the public’s help in locating her on March 25.
She has not been heard from since March 4, according to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) missing person database, and her phone is not pinging on any network.
Irene is described as a black woman, 89 pounds, approximately 5’1” with brown eyes and black hair, per DCI.
Anyone with information about, or contact from, Irene is requested to contact the Gillette Police Department at (307) 686-5250 or Wyoming DCI at (307) 777-7181.
